The castle is known for its many updates and changes in layout throughout the years, such as regenerating itself after the Battle of Hogwarts.It should be noted that some rooms in the school tend to "move around," and so do the steps on the grand staircase. There are 142 staircases, which are known to move, in the massive castle, which is set upon huge rocks above a magnificent lake. The three highest towers are the Astronomy Tower, the Ravenclaw Tower, and the Gryffindor Tower. ![]() There is also an owlery, which houses all the owls owned by the school and those owned by students. The castle has extensive grounds with sloping lawns, flowerbeds and vegetable patches, a loch (called the Black Lake), a large dense forest (called theForbidden Forest), several greenhouses and other outbuildings, and a full-size Quidditch Pitch. To celebrate all of the fantastic learning which has been going on, Year 4 then celebrated a Harry Potter ‘dress up’ day! The school was awash with the four colours of each of Hogwart’s Houses: Gryffinfor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw. This involved concocting a potion, deciding upon its magical value and then advertising their potion to the masses. In addition, they have also experienced a Potions lesson with Professor Pearson, Professor Peckunia, Professor Emerald, Professor Cross de Morte and Professor Antonia. In English, they have described Hogwarts using adventurous adjectives, similes and metaphors to really showcase the magic that conjures up Hogwarts castle. This half term, Year 4 have been immersed into the world of Harry Potter, reading Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone.
